Thursday, October 07, 2004Last day at work So it looks like this is my last day at my job for a while. I'm going to try and focus mainly on music. I was just down in the courtyard up here at the MedicAlert building on Sheppard ave in Toronto realizing that I will actually miss my time here. Everyday I take the subway to its bitter end at Don Mills station and then walk over the Don Valley Parkway where I inevitably begin singing . I don't know if it's all the brains zooming by in the cars beneath me, but something happens on the overpass where I am filled with ideas for lyrics and melodies. Typically, I don't take note of any of it and then it's forgotten. What I wish I could forget is the movie 'Forgotten' which I saw in Kingston last weekend. It's like a bad episode of X Files. Maybe I'll just keep coming up here to cross the overpass anyway.
So me, Doug, Gavin, and Jeff are going to open for Colin James on Sunday in Bala. I know what you're thinking: "Pete, why don't you challenge him to a guitar duel?" Well, fine. I will. When he busts out his first lick, I will say, "Colin, why'd you lie?!" (like his song), then I'll call his lick and see it with a riff. He won't know what to do. He'll be all like, "It's been 5 long years since I've heard a riff like that!" (like his other song), then he'll self-destroy (Benvie says that his ex-girlfriend's dad insisted that there was no such word as "destruct"). In any case, I'll give him something to have the blues about. Beyond that, We're opening for Ron Sexsmith on some dates in October. Check the tour page. Is P.O.O. still in your player? Listen to it backwards, there is a secret message. It says, "Stop trying to tell me the bright side of Lenny Kravitz". Go outside. P xoxoxoxo

Hey Pete!
So I actually just registered for a blog that I never intend to use because I wanted to post comments on here. Does that make me a geek or just a huge fan? Let's go with huge fan... Congrats on leaving your job. It was a beautiful day for it and it must have been lovely to see the sun and know that soon you'd have endless amounts of time to spend in it (until it gets cold again anyway). Strangely I recently had an argument with someone about the existence of the word "destruct" (I was on the pro existence side) so I actually laughed aloud when I read that. Of course Party of One is still in my player. I keep it in my car stereo and leave the case on the passenger seat so that anyone who gets in has to pick it up and I then have an excuse to tell them all about the brilliance of you. Build A Harmony is definitely my favourite song on the album but, truth be told, I love them all. Anyway, I've clearly gotten carried away here. This is more than I ever write to my friends. So maybe it is because I'm a geek after all...
Man, you're a lucky duck! Live that dream dude! I mean, who wouldn't want to quit their crappy job and focus on the music man?! I know I want to, and I'm not even a musician! I do, however, enjoy the P.O.O. It's great on the streetcar, subway and even on a walk home.
Hey Pete! Congrats from someone else who only registered for all this stuff just to say how much I loooove your CD. It finally made its way to me over in the UK via the fine people at MapleMusic this past week and it's one of the ones you'd autographed. I feel special.

Anyhow, the disc is more amazing than I'd imagined it could ever be. I couldn't get my paws on the EP, so this is my first exposure to most of the songs aside from what you'd posted on your site. "In My Den" is more rockin than I thought it'd be and "Still A Flame" slightly less so. 'Twas strange to hear the acoustic guitar instead of the electric solo from the live version, but it fits perfectly. The sax in "Only You" is sexay and the kazoo in "Build a Harmony" sublime. If I were to ask questions about the recording, it would probably be something dull and muso, like how did you record the drums (they sound really good, by the way). You've obviously put a ton of effort into all this and it shows. Anyhow, best of luck with the tour. There will only ever be one Autumn of 2004 and it sounds like you're gone to make the most of it. I'm off to grow my hair and beard in your honour. PS. Does the printing error you referred to in an earlier post by any chance appear in the lyrics to "Party of One"? That's the only one I could spot... PPS. I want to order an Elkas shirt from Maple, but they're out of stock. Any idea when they'll be getting more in? And on the subject of shirts, are there any Local Rabbits T's still around? I loooved the grey ones you were selling during the Basic Concept tour and would be willing to part with some serious coin if they still exist anywhere. << Home |
