I guess it can feel like homework AND New Band name

Maybe I don't enjoy typing as much as I once did, or I just seem to doubt that people really read this stuff, but I don't know the real reason why I never update this blog. Anyway, here's an entry:

It's now 2006 and been quite a while since Party Of One became available to Canadians. It was released in September of 2004, and it was sat upon for nearly a year before then. That said, I am excited to tell you that I have been working on a new album for a little while now. As far as when it will come out, I am not totalini sure. I hope that it will be your summer music, and with the way the music's developing, I think it would fit that bill. That show 'Falcon Beach' seems to think Elkas music is frolic-worthy; 'In My Den' is appearing in the 6th episode (I think) of this, their first and most excellent season. I hope that the main hunkerino is totally rockin' a wakeboard while it plays. Anyway, if you catch it, let me know.

I tend to get thinking that not much has been happening, but there have been things. Party Of One will be released in France soon on a label called Bad Reputation. Apparently, they listen to music on baguettes over there. Neat, eh? A deal has also been struck with a German label called Tapete. The band is getting tighter all the time. It's still me, Doug Friesen, Jeff Heisholt, and Gav Maguire (Jeremy Little from the Burt Neilson band has subbed for Doug on bass a couple of times when Doug had better things to do - Doug's gotta start recognizin. namsayn?). Most recently we opened for Feist and my buddies Paso Mino in Ottawa, and we had our friends Alanna Stuart and Heather Piche singing with us. They were sounding amazing and adding a foxiness that is all too absent from our show. Alanna sang lead on some verses - we traded off for Turn Out the Lights. She also appeared with us at Maverick's the week before. It was very much a dream come true to have back up singers. It's such a thing that one imagines while daydreaming in the back of a stinky van, plotting a solo career, thinking it ain't never gonna happen. Alanna is unofficially joining the band, so expect to see and hear her along with us on our next tour. No big plans for that yet. The record will come out first, and then we'll hit the road. I am trying to write some things with her in mind, so this next record will be pretty vocal heavy.

The other thing is that when Feist introduced us at the Capital in Ottawa (she and her band were just amazing, by the way), at the last moment I asked her to introduce us as 'ELKAS'; not Peter Elkas, or the Elkaholics (which I do still love, but people don't get the pun). So that's going to be it. The band is called ELKAS, like Van Halen, or Feist for that matter. So let's get 2006 started off right and start saying things like: "I can't wait for the new ELKAS record", or "Who's coming with me to see ELKAS? I got a bunch of free tickets and there's nothing better to do", or, if you are a band member, "I play in ELKAS. The lead singer is Peter Elkas, but he's not the boss of me. In fact, Doug goes where Doug damn well pleases. If I want to go to the National Gallery, then that's where the hell I'm going", and lastly, "EL-KAS! EL-KAS! EL-KAS!" at shows, namsayn? You've always wanted to chant it like that, but you thought that my head would get bigger. Now you can say it loud and proud even if you are only a fan of, say, Doctor Jeff.

I'm going to go and add another post right now so that it looks like I'm posting tons of shit on this thing. Somebody said that my work ethic was embarrassing, and that I should pull the blog if I don't update it. Well, my work ethic is embarrassing; I will admit that. Hopefully you'll forgive me and keep coming back. I want to completely re-vamp this site. It's going to be freakin' amazing. Not unlike the promises that Omnibotâ„¢ once made and fulfilled, this thing will make your goddam bed, get you a drink, rub your feet, listen to your day's stories (really listen - like, even form opinions that it will keep to itself until prompted for input, because www.peterelkas.com is not overbearing and actually cares about your feelings), offer to go back to the car for the thing you forgot, take your tired, hungry, snarkiness with a grain of salt, because it will know that you didn't mean it, put up with you when you're drunk (and high - you know how you get when you're stoned - it's impossible to have a conversation with your paranoid ass), and pretty much "be there" for you. I dislike that expression, but it's what people say when they mean emotionally available.

See you in the next entry.
